About Desert Mermaid Art
Desert Mermaid Art is rooted in the memory of my late Grandmother. In my pre-teen years my brother and I spent summers with my Grandparents in San Diego. We would wake up before the sun rise, when the tide was low, and go shell hunting. Fast forward twenty something years later, my Grandpa handed me a box of what we'd gathered as kids, dozens of sand dollars and shells, still perfectly intact. I had no idea what to do with them, so they sat untouched for a year — until an idea finally clicked into place. That idea became what you see here.
It wasn't until after she passed that I learned just how much my Grandmother had loved seashells all along. Now, every piece I create feels like a way of keeping that love — and a part of her — alive. That's why no two are ever quite the same. They are a reflection of her, and the places I feel at home, in the desert and by the ocean.
